Southwark's overview & scrutiny committee held a lengthy session on fire safety tonight, putting questions to Cllr Stephanie Cryan (cabinet member responsible for housing), Gerri Scott (director of housing, etc) and other officers.
Glad you found it useful, Jan.
When I was a kid we were told about a country far away where rich princes stepped over beggars in the street and did nothing as it was their "fate" or karma. I was horrified by this, and wondered how such a thing could ever happen. Now I just have to look in the news.
The more of this story comes out the more sickened and disgusted I feel.
A journalist in the Guardian yesterday was talking of "social murder" of poor people in this, the richest area of one of the richest cities in the world.
Just have a look though at what our own dear Southwark Council are up to?
Working class people are so shamefully treated. I hope this horrible fire has exposed some of the greed and social cleansing that is happening all around us, and that a stop will be put to it.
