Agree. A lot of misty eyed people about a run-down building surrounded by a shanty town.

Firstly James congratulations on your Radio London slot with Vanessa yesterday morning.
I feel a Westfield style mall area will be fine generally as a similar scheme has enriched and polished up Bloomsbury and Shepherd's Bush White City for instance with even John Lewis going in with great enthusiasm... what's not to like?

When you hear about what the plan was for the shopping centre back in the day (glass roof, very airy...) and how it was delivered and maintained, it is night and day. They will build an even bigger monstrosity in its place. Just wondering how it makes economic sense now that so many retail shops are struggling in the high street (Debenhams, House of Fraser, Mothercare, New Look, John Lewis even....). Current shops won't afford higher rents and will not hang out for years whilst it is being built. I am not quite sure which new shops will be attracted to E&C ? Hopefully not Costa and Starbucks and co. but shops we actually need, like a decent sized supermarket!

Agree, they are replacing one neglected ugly building with several much larger ugly (but new) buildings.
And also agree the shopping centre design was compromised from the day it opened, and has been allowed to rot recently. Personally I'd be happy to see it go if the replacement didn't feature the high-rise towers.

And at last i will feel safe attending The Metropolitan Tabernacle as quite frankly the Elephant area has been no go for me personally since 1970s.... it will be full security and quality professional in appearance and substance hopefully.. Shepherd's Bush White City area especially has been transformed... naturally they have the ex BBC TC building with amenities to add and contribute to the ambience
