Well knock me down with a feather, this is an unexpected turn of events. Fair play to the councillors, and I hope that if it does get referred to the Mayor he will back their decision. As noted on the other thread about Lambeth, the proliferation of hotels is detrimental to locals in many ways.

Wouldnt get your hopes up....the owners will appeal and win and take the council for costs. That was the advice of Southwark’s own lawyer! It’s all well and good making a political gesture but actually this new committee is very naive...

I think Planning Applications are probably a farce everywhere. Over 70 people objected to a glass extension on a cottage in a much loved street of thatch cottages here in Havant (Conservation area with Article 4 orders re materials, styles etc). The planning officer supported the application but all the Councillors voted against the proposal. It went to appeal and was given permission.
