This blog has a lovely selection of old shopfronts in SE1. The blog is only a few years old, but many of them are gone already.

Wow ! Great selection. Great to see the FERODO bridge sign over Flat Iron Square . I
well remember that in the 1950s cos I had a school holiday job at Decca records distribution centre in America Street right near that bridge. If my memory serves me right there were similar ones on the bridges in Southwark Street and Newington Causeway
Happy days !
Thanks for that Andrew H

Most of the frontage I remember. Even the tatty ones contributed to the unique individuality of Southwark. Now most new bits are so boringly the same! Wonder what happened to the interior of Gin Palace? As I recall through beery haze it was beautiful!

I got a bit carried away on a nostalgia trip around London with this website. The comments are very amusing, but affectionate. No proud owners could have been hurt in the making of this photographic feast . With a cup of tea in hand now, I'll try visiting more old haunts. Thank you for introducing us to this site !
