Muggers don't have time to look what they're stealing, it's a snatch and grab situation!
In my case my phone was years old, with a shattered screen, and a broken microphone. It's totally worthless, aside from family photos that are now lost.
It's not ideal to have a phone out of your bag, but sometimes it's a way to feel safe. In my case I always keep my phone in my bag and had just taken it out to reply to a work emergency.
I'm not sure many people have the luxury of being able to leave work at the office these days, and it's just a shame that it makes you a walking target!

This happened to me about 8 weeks ago in the exact same area. I don't understand how the police haven't caught them yet. There have been so many reports. I'm sure if some officers (undercover) just stood around the area for a day they'd finally catch them.

It has been going on for years. I used to work overlooking Tanner Street park. I watched it happen twice from the window. I saw it happen while walking through the park. I have also seen it happen twice outside Borough Station recently. I use headphones for calls for this exact reason.

It's easy to get paranoid but a kid passed me by on a Boris bike a couple of days ago closer than I would have thought normal along Guy's Street and looked me over before heading on. I didn't have my phone out so maybe he was checking up on my sartorial elegance.
