I'm all in favour of new towers for the City, Canary Wharf and London Bridge - but this particular site is far too prominent, it will over-dominate the area, and having seen its design the tower will look completely out of place. It's just far too tall and attention-seeking. I'm a massive skyscraper enthusiast but I'm completely against Beetham's proposal for this site.

It will also block certain views from the London Eye.

So the developer is fairly sure it will gat through planning to be at least 30 storeys!
Any guesses as to the total final number of floors? My bet is on c.45.

Got a newsletter through the letterbox today on this. They have another pre-planning exhibition at Mercure London City Bankside Hotel, 71-79 Southwark Street. Dates Fri 6th Oct 3pm - 6pm and Sat 7th Oct 9am - 12noon.

Apparently the plans have been revised and they will submit another planning application later this year. Another exhibition will follow to show the final plans.

"Committed to consultation" they also say in the newsletter.

I was surprised there wasn't more comment on this last week:

There was a small piece about this in the Times today:

I don't really see how the revised plans have a chance given Southwark's explicit refusal to designate Blackfriars Road as suitable for tall buildings.

Just looked at the revised images and press release; CABE might call it 'bold', I call it an eyesore - out of scale with the area and surroundings!

I completely agree. This is absolutely hideous. It's out of proportion, very ugly and frankly tacky.

Agree - I generally like tall buildings (I know - I'm easily impressed...) but they always work better in clusters; this looks terribly out of place and mis-balanced.
