What a good idea for a debate, with lots of possible approaches
Things whose spirit makes them SE1ish
Things SE1 lacks
Things we like elsewhere and wish were in SE1
Things to change the character of SE1
So Arancia in the first category, good swimming pool in the second, waitrose in the third, alps in the fourth etc
I love both the Brunswick centre and the Barbican so I'd like to do some cutting and pasting to replace the elephant and castle and the Hayward Gallery/QE Hall with bits and pieces from both of them.
I'd like to do some cloning of Copperfield St, Grange Walk and Roupell St, so more of us could live in those lovely old houses (prices would come down if there were more, wouldn't they?).
I quite fancy transferring the whole of the Seven dials area here
I'd like a canal - like the regents canal for instance
I'd like a good veggie restaurant like the one next to the London Buddhist centre up in Bethnal Green
I'd like Saturday and Sunday opening at certain bars and restaurants
I'd like a branch of reckless records or the video and tape exchange
Finally, I'd like the Anchor Bankside as it used to be ....
For one moment I thought "Downhill Strand" was a comment on the direction this thread was taking, then I remembered where it is...
Apart from the practical question of the cliffs making commuting a little tricky, wouldn't it be too much of a temptation to have Downhill Strand so close - none of us ever get any work done in the summer.
On the other hand, if was relocated a few stops from London Bridge - to replace Abbey Wood, Thamesmead and Erith - now that would be wonderful.
