Just had one of my afternoon swift halves down the local - Simons was closed so we went to the Brittania (owned by same person) ... to be told that Simon has been sold to a property developer (good, just what is needed along that stretch of Long Lane) ... and that the last night is tomorrow - Friday 18 March

The SE1 social obviously didn't boost the profts enough ...

Bloody hell, that is just AWFUL! Oh these developers...

How depressing.

The developers couldn't buy pubs if the breweries didn't sell them. I thought Southwark Council had some policy against pubs being turned into flats, or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

I've been in this part of town for three and-a-half years and I must have seen eight or nine pubs close. All, it seems to be turned into flats.
I'm sorry Simon TT joins that list.

What's happening with Valentine's, also on Long Lane? Shut too. And how long before The George (also on Long Lane) bites the dust? Not long me thinks.

the freeholder of the blue lion place site was looking to build over the top of the car park for 237-next to Simons but i had heard the plans were put on hold for a year some time back perhaps they have bought the site?

is it a listed building does anyone know?

What a downright shame. I am not at all a pub go-er nor a drinker but Simon The Tanner was about the only pub I really liked. I can't believe it.
