My apartment block has appallingly poor sound insulation. We can hear practically every noise, from light conversation, through to more 'intimate moments'!
Does anyone know of a local, reliable surveyor/engineer who specialises in 'sound' that we can employ to run some tests, so that we can get our landlord to deal with this matter. We're pretty certain that the building does not confirm to building regulations.
Tape it and then play it back through a PA system outside the landlords house, see how they like it. If there are any mentionings of names in the intimate moments, dubb it with the landlords name instead hehe.
Have you tried calling out your local councils noise team? I know it's not the neighbours fault for the poorly insulated building, but at least something would be on record from a third party representative to put forward as a recommendation to the landlord.
There are various specialists that deal with the insulation and fitting of home cinema systems or recording studios. Before consulting such a specialist, who would probably charge a consultatation fee also, try calling a studio and randomly ask someone, ya never know. It isn't something you'd look in the yellow pages for, soooo.... why not?
The best I imagine an accoustic engineer being able to do is to measure an approximation of the eminating sound with a sound pressure meter compensatiing the density of the predicted or known building materials used between you and your neighbours. There may be equipment that measure reverberation through walls too (hopefully the neighbours would not have had a good curry the night before they visit), but I'd assume this would need to be witnessed by a third party indivudual such as an environmental health officer, such as someone from the local councils noise team perhaps.
My landlord has fitted sound insulation material on the flooring in the flat directly above me. But, only to have the new tenents install wooden floor panels straight after moving in haha. The little kid sounds like animal, the drummer from the muppet show playing the drums when running around. They should ban wooden flooring in flats, its just a fashion trend anyways.
