I'm looking to join a Library and wondered if anyone knows of a good one in my area (I live just off Tower Bridge road, near Long Lane). I've noticed one on Borough High Street, near the tube station, but this doesn't seem to open on Saturdays, and from the outside looks quite small.

John Harvard Library in Borough High Street is small but has a reasonably good stock. (I haven't used it regularly for about 5 years, though.) It IS open on Saturday mornings.

There's also Newington Library in Walworth Road.

You could always cross the river and use the Corporation of London libraries in the City, such as the largish library at the Barbican.
