Will SE1 readers please join me in protesting to or lobbying every possible agency involved in the maintenance of the river walkway and adjacent streets over the woeful state of the lighting. There are parts, such as the Bankside walkway by Tate Modern and Winchester Square by Borough Market, where a good half of the lights are not working. It looks so shoddy and cheap after dark.
Southwark just say they do what they can ‘given available resources' and blame poor workmanship in the first place as the root of the problem. They also say they cannot justify further investment in maintenance because the lights are relatively new. The lights don't work for goodness sake - that should be justification enough for investing properly in their maintenance!
This otherwise attractive part of London really deserves better care - especially as it is trumpeted as a showcase by the borough.
