I noticed this morning that the Borough Community Centre (on the corner of Southwark Bridge Road and Union Street, near the Shell service station) is now all boarded up.

Does anyone know what is going to happen to this lovely old building and if its closure is only temporary?

gangs of kids were starting to smash the windows with the traffic kones outside and slowly destroying the building so someone of our building called the council and they secured the building.
they said that it will be refurbished for council purposes (ie not demolished!), but no decision has been taken.

A decision HAS been taken- at the end of last year.

The Council Executive decided that we would work with the Elephant Links SRB to refurbish the building and re-open it as a community centre with an emphasis on supporting access to employment by local people. We will hopefully be establishng a trust to manage the building and the Access Centre.

The SRB is drawing up detailed proposals - when they are available I'll try and remember to post them here - AFAIR the intention was to get the building open again by the end of 2004
