My grandfather came to Canada at the turn of the century from the U.K. and I have a certificate from the Southwark Children's home (or something to that nature) stating that he came from there. It's at my mother's house so I don't have it with me but I'm trying to find out any information about this place. I'm assuming it no longer exists but can anyone help me with that?

Thank you!

I think the library on Borough High St has quite a good local history service, you could start there.

Also Bernado's (sp?) have and office on Weston st if I'm not mistaken they may be able to help.

Good luck

If he left the UK after 1901, you might be able to find out information from the 1901 census, which is available online, and it's free to do name searches. You can also do an institution search on there. Good luck!
