There are two different G.P.s at the borough medical centre..I'd go for the lansdowne they are very good.

You should have a look at the NHS choices website:
http://www.nhs.uk/servicedirectories/Pages/ServiceSearch.aspx

It lists GPs and other services by location, provides details of services provided hours, GPs etc) and has a section for patients to leave comments.

I am a local GP, but a bit further east of Long Lane.....

I too live on Long Lane and am registered with Falmouth Rd Surgery - its very good - insist on having Dr Stone as your GP. You can also email them for repeat prescriptions etc.....highly recommded

Yes - re mill street - i had a heart issue that showed up in a private scan and the consultant wrote to my GP at mill street after I chased for several weeks as they were dragging their feet about looking into it for me. They did nothing to make me feel comfortable about the process and one appointment was so bad (which I wont go into details on the net) that although I went in quite happy I burst into tears on the way home and it had nothing to do with my condition but the way I was spoken to!

Anyway - has anyone used the artesian?

Another happy Falmouth Road patient here, I think there's only been one occasion where I couldn't get an appointment the same day.

I am a patient of the Lansdowne & Bermondsey Medical Mission, which has surgeries at both Decima Street & the Artesian. No complaints about level of care & service from me, but then I have not had anything serious like a heart problem.

Surgeries recommended here refuse to take me as I live in Shad Thames, outside their catchment area half a mile away. So I'm going to try Mill Street which I reached easily by phone and spoke to a civil and intelligent young lady. Their soonest registration check-up is 5 weeks away. I'll try them. I have no choice.

Mark I am sure I read somewhere ( here?) that you could attend any G.P. you wanted to, and the old 'catchment area' no longer applies..

I think that was the good old days where you had to live within reasonable distance of the surgery and when the Doctor called to see you if you were sick..not like the on call ones now that you contact by a completely different number and a seperate 'company'..

Thanks, Jan. I'd be grateful if anyone can confirm this authoritatively as the SE1 surgeries themselves refused me on the phone on grounds of living outside their area in Ultima SE1 hundreds of yards away.

I'm never ill. I just like to see a doctor every decade to be told how handsome and healthy I am. As my mother-in-law says of her herself, I plan to die healthy, probably in Mill Street Surgery's waiting room.
