Its a shame if it goes but its not so surprising. I've been here 20 years and the staff have always been friendly and helpful, the opposite of London Bridge branch.
Not surprising as it is such a large building, developers are obviously licking their lips. There used to be a large sorting office behind (the Dover Castle was a posties pub) but the land was sold to developers to build all those 'apartments'. I live in Tabard Street and the Costcutter in Great Dover Street now has a post office at the back where you can send parcels, get road tax etc. It is never too busy.
Got a flyer from the LibDems through the letterbox today asking people to visit http://campaigns.libdems.org.uk/SaveBoroughPO and sign the petition.
LibDems want an opportunity to talk about transport links and accesibility, adequate space for customers to queue amd losing trained staff.
PO say it's not a 'closure' but a transfer to a franchise. "As such, they believe they do not need to consult local people".
If the LibDems are supporting the cause then it's already lost.
I say close it forthwith, if not sooner, and save time and money on pointless consultations. The walk to London Bridge PO will do you good.
