I also noticed this week that the St Mungo's hostel in Rushworth Street has a sign advertising a plant sale every Friday lunchtime.

There's a nice little garden centre at Limehouse Basin which is easy to get to via Rotherhithe Tunnelor Limehouse (DLR). Also Roots & Shoots, a community gradening project. It should be on the web.

has anyone mentioned the 'expert' books by Dr D G Hessayon - i think he has two for house plants

theyre clearly laid out, well illustrated and very easy to use

you could use them to help you choose (at your leisure) and they have all you will need to know for plant care - as far as i know gardeners swear by them - and theyre less than 10
