Lullabelle, the only place I ever got the sack from was a company on Upper Group, number 27 I think...it was a company that specialised in anodizing, all I remember is that it was a process that gave a beautiful metallic look to trays and ashtrays! Re-Nu plating I think...I was hired as a dict-a-phone typist, I blagged my way into it as my typing speed was a pitiful 25 words a minute, and had to operate this bloody machine with a foot pedal similar to a sewing machine....then stop and start and rewind...4 weeks after they sacked me! That was also a very old office, rather dickensian..I used to take a short cut to the river through upper ground for lunch, probably can't do it now..
You can still get to the river from various points in upper ground: next to IBM, gabriel's wharf, an alley down by what was Sea Containers house (i think) but has been renamed. I'm sure the road itself has changed so much. I work at the london studios and every day I'm there i thank my good fortune for working in such a fantastic location. Just walking by the river for ten minutes makes me feel great.
