Ben Beber's shop was on the corner of Mina Road and Old Kent Road, but he was originally on the opposite of the road in part of a terrace of shops with bungalow frontages which were demolished to make way for the widening of the Old Kent Road betweeen the Dun Cow and the Burgess Park frontage.
In the same frontage was a great moderl/toy shop that had a reailway set in the window that you could operate by inserting an old penny in a slot, and just around the corner in Dunton Road was a saveloy and pease pudding vendors.
I think Ben Beber's was the only business to survive and relocate.
I remember that model railway in the window! There was also a Woolworths that had its original 1930s wooden floors. I used to love going in there and spending my pocket money.
