Does any one know when Bermondsey Square (primarily interested in the shops) will be finished?

The first residents move in this month.

Sainsbury's Local and Del'Aziz are supposed to begin fitting out next month.

The whole thing is supposedly due for completion by early next year.

The first use of the open-air cinema screen in the square is on Saturday 13 September as part of the Bermondsey Street Festival.

Sainsburys (Local) put up thier sign just before the bank holiday weekend and are fitting out the store. I'd heard they would be open 24 hours but the sign says 7-11.

Shall we play a game of 'which of the thousand local grocery shops will close first as a result of the new Sainsburys'?

I predict Fine Life Shopper, which I always quite liked.

Well, if you and others carry on shopping at one of the local stores and shun the Sainsbury's, it shouldn't be a problem. Its down to choice isn't it?

If milk from Sainsbury's doesn't go off within 48 hours of being purchased (as it often does from local shops during the summer, their refridgeration clearly not being up to it), then that must be a bonus.

well it has to be an improvement on the tesco at empire square, so long as the staff have more of an awareness of personal hygiene than their tesco rivals

I'm looking forward to having a Sainsbury's just up the road - the more choice we have in the area the better.

Yes why do supermarket management allow their staff to work when they can't present themselves hygenically? Are the managers too "scared" to bring up the subject for fear of offending some of their workers, whilst allowing their customers to be offended by the smells that seems to circulate around some of these people.

had a glance at bermondsey square today..looks rather nice in a kind of baby-empire square way. the suspended lighting is rather funky and the overall finish is attractive. on the other hand, sainsbury looks tiny...smaller than the borough high st branch and hopefully the pavement will be redone at the long lane facing side-its really grotty right now
