Is anyone else getting worried by this?

The fact that it's managed to mutate and is spreading from person to person, and there are hundreds dead already (100 officially, 200+ unofficially), plus thousands more infected, and it's spreading rapidly around the globe -

It's also affecting young people rather than just the sick and elderly. In the middle of a crowded, international city (London) it could spread very easily among the population. In fact it may have entered the UK already judging by the latest reports... - a timeline of future history

Ah well, I'm flying to London on Thursday, so check the Forum on Friday and I'll tell you if I'm still joke actually it's quite alarming, but frankly what can one DO? Shut oneself up in an insulated box and wait till the scare is over?

People who work with poultry and swine, especially people with intense exposures, are at increased risk of zoonotic infection with influenza virus endemic in these animals, and constitute a population of human hosts in which zoonosis and reassortment can co-occur.
It's an argument, if another were needed, to outlaw factory farming, which provides the conditions for viruses to mutate and jump across species with the risk of a pandemic. We vegetarians would cop it too.

I agree, markadams, even though I am a meat eater. Let us just hope swine flu will continue to respond to Tamiflu and the like. Let us also hope that the stock piles of anti-virals are big enough.

I know some people say that organic food is expensive, whether animal or vegetable, I can understand people with families having to rely on factory farmed food because of cost.

But if all others ate organic I am sure it would result in far less food being thrown away, according to the media it is thousands of pounds in value of discarded food.
Not much gets discarded in my house though...I eat it all!

And if not eaten discarded organic vegetables could be collected like it used to be in school and given to the farmers for pig swill...

As I very rarely get colds due to using that stuff you squirt up your nose, First Defence would it protect against the new Pork Flu ( sorry cant put Swine Fever as it makes me think of certain men in my past! ) lol

It's a steamy Victorian etching. How frustrating for you! Concentrate on your work and try not to think about it.
