When I read a description of Tracey Emins
latest exhibition at the white cube gallery.

Apart the use of the good old anglo-saxon work for sexual activity, there is a film apparently of a woman legs akimbo masturbating..Why has the relevant council allowed this to be portrayed, lucky it's not southwark....

Is it just me who finds this eucch? I am very liberal minded and not a prude, but this in an exhibition....

So you haven't seen it. Maybe it's 'in the best possible taste'. On the other hand, maybe it's utterly gross. Go see it and report back.
I imagine you can see far more explicit material on Virgin1 sexcetera and many Channel 4/5 programmes.

I haven't seen it either but would hazard a guess that given that it is Tracy Emin it's probably not very tasteful. Mind you, I did see her Turner prize winning bed.......

I agree about seeing it for myself before i pass judgement Phoney...but at least watching on telly I could swoon on to me settee!..:-)

Emins work is always autobiographical and about sex - though she was recently qouted as saying she's more interest in 'ideas' these days, perhaps because she will soon be 50 and has had four years without a regular partner and just a few one night stands......she can always be relied on for brutal and disarming honesty.

I quite like her drawing style, and some of the hand-sewn pieces, but find her work too blatantly self-regarding at times - maybe I just like the 'safer' stuff and am too uncomfortable with the feeling of prurience when looking at some of her other work. The film is unusual for not depicting her 'in action' - it's a series of linked line drawings based on pornographic magazine images. So buy some mags off the top shelf, Jan - then you can replicate the effect of the film and swoon in the comfort of your own home!

you must be old. Your username tells us so ;o}

But thanks for the *tip-off*, if there's films of masturbating women on show for free in galleries, then it definitely behoves us to check them out in the name of art;o}

...if you press it, they will come.

You are such a guy!

I've been reading about this show too, and I tend to agree with Jan.

Janefs I'll look forward to Emin posting herself ' Emin the horney old one!..lmao so if she is sexually frustrated how comes she is not the starring role? or is a almost half a century fanny not as appealing! except of course to a male of similar age perhaps..

I may be the other side of sixty but I have not forgotten the joys of sexual activity, I just find public displays of of masturbation weird when dressed up as art. I used to look at the displays of screws in Nettleford and Moser opposite George the martyr and think they were truly artistic and beautiful, displayed in radiating sunrays, just to clarify the public screw position! it was copper screws..not the Emin

Ivanhoe can I have all your top shelf mags or are you conscienscously(?) putting them out for the re-cycling lorry which has to make a special collection perhaps...:-) Oh I wanna dance with somebody..oh I wanna swoon with somebody..

p.s. nettlefords was where brandon house is now/was!

Nothing off the top shelf for me, Jan. I'm only interested in art ;0)

...if you press it, they will come.
