This is one of the strange questions but the good SE1-ers are an expert bunch concerning weirdness.

Does anyone know anything about shooting stars or meteorites landing in the UK- esp, hitting houses cars etc. Large or Small pieces?
Or know where I can find info on such things- email me a PM if you prefer.
Thanks all.

I saw a meteorite move across the sky one night. I was on a coach traveling back from Italy (cheap school trip)and we watched it for several seconds before it disappeared. It had a very long trail of 'light' and moved much more slowly than a shooting star. It was daybreak and was definitely not an airplane. The driver and one other teacher where the only ones awake to witness it and the others wouldn't believe us when we told them.

Related, but at a slight tangent.
I was in a pub recently where a quiz was in progress, (I was not taking part.)
One question was, What is another name for a shooting star?
I immediately thought meteorite.
The answer given was meteoroid.
To howls of derision the quizmaster qualified it as follows; a meteorite falls to earth but a meteoroid just flashes across the sky.
