Sigh.....I used to be a lifesaver in Australia (several years, and nearly as many kilos ago). Generally, when you swim in the surf there, you are never really that far from a shark - however, the chances of getting attacked are extremely remote - and attacks, unfortunately do happen to surfers more than anyone else. Not that it's any consolation to the poor bloke's family, but I bet he wouldn't want them hunted down - I guess it's just one of the risks that surfers take - when the great whites & tigers hope out on to land and start munching us on the pavement, they'll be fair game. Until then, leave the buggers alone. Oh - by the way - same goes for the dingoes on Fraser Island - the very few that are left - if you encourage your children to wave ham sandwiches at them, please don't be surprised when they get bitten!
