I have an undisclosed email address and havent received this spam mail. Anyway, would be too busy for their site as already, acquiring three College degrees from seperate US Universities whilst earning $200k!!! p.a. working from home and simultaneously enlarging body parts and popping magic diet pills. Oh, and I cleared my debt too.

Using a subtly different e-mail address for various purposes makes it a lot easier to track how spammers have got hold of it - it just makes changing ISP a bugger!

Hmmm. I have had a reply to my complaint. Make up your own minds what you make of it...

James,
Thanks for the email. I have been having complaints all day about sending SPAM and I have just spent the past hour trying to find out why all of those emails were sent.

TAL is a new site that I finished designing a few weeks ago. I have just started my MBA and I asked one of my friends to look after the site as I do not have the time. What looks like has happened is that he decided it would be a good idea to spam a load of addresses, and I assume he got email addresses from your site.

James (the guy I gave over administration to) had access to my shell account so he could access PHP files etc and after looking through my system, I found he wrote this script:

for i in `seq 1 1700`; do lynx --dump http://www.london-se1.co.uk/forum/profile.php\?1,$i | grep Email: ; done > selondon

I don't know if you know Unix, but it essentially runs a sequence (1 through 1700) which is then passed on to a HTML dumper for /profile?1,number. I assume this is the profile of your users?

James has been bollocked by me for doing this as I hate SPAM as much as the next person.

All I can do is ask you to pass on my sincere apologies to your users about this as it was definitely not sanctioned by me and will not happen again as I have closed all access for him and other users to my machine.

Sorry again!
