On the advice of my good friend Dr Tharg of Stanley Towers I have just made myself a concoction of his devising in an attempt to chase away a bout of the winter ague. Do yourselves a favour and try Dr Tharg's Winter Warmer:-

2 pints cider
pepper corns*
dried, stem, or fresh ginger*

*all optional.

Heat the cider, add any amount of any of the above. Drink it.

I can report that it's a winner. I am supping it now and I feel life returning to my old bones.

You stick your frothy lager and your blow-wave hairstyles.......

Sounds great. Are you sure I have to warm the cider (esp if I'm not using any of the optional ingredients)?

...if you press it, they will come.

Well if you follow the Roadrunner variation you can change ALL the ingredients AND the method.

In my experience you can substitute rum for all ingredients in all recipes.

Here's another one.....commonly known in our family as "Granny's Flu Chaser" - it sounds a bit rough, but is in fact great - and if you down a couple of pints and have an early night the minute you feel the lurgy coming on, it does appear to work wonders.....although you may not have any friends for a couple of days......

fresh lemon juice
mango pulp
as many cloves of fresh crushed garlic as you can stand
dried, stem, or fresh ginger
2 measures of dark rum
boiling water
