The Winos meal on Saturday was as follows:

Cava & nibbles

Prawns in sauce and melon
2 bottles of Domaine de la Ferrandiere

Chicken Korma with basmati rice and salad
Rawsley estate Chardonney
Chateu Orme Brun

Lemom & chocolate tart with raspberries and posh vanilla and chocolate ice-cream
Chateu Filhot a Sauternes
Blandey's madeira

All very nice too.

Our January group slipped into February and met last Saturday. Massive thanks to Jac for offering her home for me to host, mine being terminally messy with no hope whatsoever of creating room for even 2 people to sit down!

Our Moroccan-themed dinner went as follows:

Pre-dinner drinks: Winter Pimms or G&T with olive nibbles

Starter: Moroccan tomato and pepper salad with olives, and walnut and apricot bread.
Starter wine: Torres Vina Sol

Main course: Chicken Tagine with saffron, olives and preserved limes. Couscous and roast Mediterranean vegetables.
Main course wines: Domain Grezan Pinot Noir 2008; Carta Roja Monastrell Gran Reserva 2004

Dessert: Creme Brulee with rosemary-scented biscuits.
Dessert wine: Tasmanian Tamar Ridge 2006 botrytis Riesling

Sorry to correct you Gill, but the Winos starter was actually king prawns in a sweet chilli sauce with mango and bitter leaf salad.

Ohhh- how I miss you all....Am planning a trip to SE1 in September and so hope I will be able attend one of these dinners.

The Gourmets met last night, too, with debutants Mark and Brice hosting. Thanks to all for making our first dinner so enjoyable. The menu was:

A selection of home made gougeres and anchovy 'twirls', with Champagne by Benedicte Michel-Gentilhomme

Butternut squash and leek soup, with home made bread.
Calvert's Reserve 2008 Sauvignon Blanc

Confit of duck, with pommes saladaise, carrot puree, and cepes. Wine: Ch. La Borie 2008, Cotes du Rhone

Thank you to all the Gourmets for a lovely evening, Mark and Brice were the most generous of hosts and the food and wines were superb. I have been busy ever since following links to some of the subjects that were discussed on saturday!
