Hi all,

Hope you don't mind my asking, but I am looking for a development site in north SE1 - around Borough or Waterloo - on a quietish street with a footprint of no less than 1000 sq ft. Old warehouse ideal (it's for a family home for extended family living). I have a budget of up to about 1.25m for the site...

Are there any agents specialising in development sites that anyone knows about? I know of kalmars but no one else?

There are the old Colorama buildings on Lancaster St which are empty - quiet street, about the size you're talking about, I imagine. I believe they have a sign on them now but not sure who.

There's also a vacant lot next to the Crown on Blackfriars Road although no idea who owns it. Not the Council, I don't think. Phil at the Crown may know.

Thanks La Martinet... I will cycle down to Lancaster Street this evening and have a look.

Having spent time trying to find a site myself, albeit when the market was more buoyant and with a much lower budget, it's not easy! Presumably you're in touch with Don Walsh at Kalmars, he has a pretty good idea of what's coming up. I would also try Field and Sons, Edward Symmons and Edwards on Southwark Street and generally put the word out with most of the local residential agents too if you haven't already done so as they do tend to know what's about, even if they're not actually marketing it.

Also try Andrews and Robertson's auction catalogue - they are Southwark Council's preferred agent for land/property disposals.

You could also proactively find sites that look suitable, check with the Land Registry who owns them and make a direct approach.

I think the Colorama building is a lot bigger than you need and is up for 5m which may well be why it's been for sale for years.

Good luck!

thanks emmab... will contact and monitor as suggested. I looked at the Colorama building on streetview and got a sense of it being a bit bigger than I needed... :)

So how did you get on; did you manage to find a site?
