Hi, i am considering buying a flat in Devon Mansions (403 to 433 block) and would like to know if the council has recently carried out or has any future plans to carry out any costly “major works”.

I would like to hear from any residents.
Thanks in advance.

Be aware that whatever ex-local authority flat you buy, you will always end up paying lots of money for this and for that, no matter what major works they have already done they will always find new ones to do.

trust me.. been there, done that.

The solicitors will pick up on major works planned for the next 3-5 years.

Check also a document called the Section 125 agreement. This caps the liability of the owner of the flat to pay towards capital works for a period of 5 years (from the time of initial right-to-buy). It saved me a lot of money when the lifts were recently renewed.

I can tell you that the council is in the process of replacing the aged lifts inside the buildings and plan to refurbish/re-decorate the internal common parts. These works are ongoing and are being staged block-by-block. Doubtless the leasholders will be picking up the tab.
