The Deptford Jack in the Green is a revival of an old May Day tradition where a large foliage-covered framework is paraded through the streets.

Since the early 1980s Fowlers Troop has toured Deptford, Greenwich, the Borough or the City of London every May Day.

This year the jack started its journey at The Wheatsheaf at the Hop Exchange in Southwark Street before heading across London Bridge and into the Square Mile.

On Wednesday afternoon it was due to return to Bankside via the Millennium Bridge with a stop at the Founders Arms before completing its journey at The Charles Dickens in Union Street.
