A daily coach service from London to Birmingham - picking up at Elephant & Castle and Waterloo - has been launched by Snap, a new demand-responsive coach travel firm.

Snap – founded in 2016 by former rail industry executive Thomas Ableman – offers low-cost intercity journeys.

Snap doesn't operate any coaches itself but subcontracts individual journeys to private hire coach companies whose vehicles would otherwise be standing idle.

The company's first routes included London to Nottingham and Bristol, and this summer the firm added London to Birmingham to its network.

Snap keeps costs low by picking up from normal bus stops rather than coach stations.

The Birmingham service, which currently operates at least once a day, starts outside Sainsbury's in New Kent Road at Elephant & Castle and has a second SE1 pickup point outside The Fire Station bar in Waterloo Road.

Fares start from £5 each way. At present, Snap is offering new customers their first return trip for free; details at www.getasnap.com/first-trip-free
