SE1 restaurateur Ibrahim Dogus to be Mayor of Lambeth

Cllr Ibrahim Dogus was elected as a councillor for Bishop's ward – covering Waterloo and the South Bank – in May 2018 and immediately became deputy mayor of the borough.

Now he has been elected by Lambeth Labour as the borough's mayor for the next municipal year.

"I have been greatly inspired by the current mayor Cllr Christopher Wellbelove, who has been such a positive force and role model in Lambeth," said Cllr Dogus.

"He will be a difficult act to follow but I will endeavour to continue and build upon the vital work he has done in our borough. I have been honoured to serve as his deputy mayor over the past year, and working alongside him has afforded me the best possible training to take over this role."

The mayor-making ceremony will take place at Lambeth Council on 24 April.

Cllr Dogus owns three South Bank restaurants – Troia, Westminster Kitchen and Cucina – and has recently received publicity for the anti-Brexit messages printed on receipts issued at his eateries.

He is also the man behind the British Kebab Awards which has achieved nationwide prominence thanks to Jeremy Corbyn's attendance at the ceremony.

Cllr Dogus is the publisher of the Lambeth Life newspaper.
