The year is 1845, and a wagon team has hired mountain man Stephen Meek to guide them across the sparse landscape of the Oregon Trail.
Claiming to know a short cut, Meek leads them on an unmarked path, and they soon become lost in the inhospitable terrain. When a Native American crosses their path, the pioneers are torn over where to place their trust.
