Union Press is ad-hoc and temporary publishing house dedicated to Union Street.
An open publishing workshop examining the inns and outs of Union Street and its surrounding communities while experimenting with forms of public production and publication.
Union Press will open its doors on Flat Iron square from a custom designed kiosk which will house the press and become the center of numerous activities inviting visitors and passers-by to actively get involved.
Each day Union Press will host an invited collaborator who will take up residence on Flat Iron Square and produce a dedicated publication. An anthropologist, local poets, activists, a journalist, an art historian, architects and graphic designers will be responding to specific interests in Union Street and producing a one off publication during their day long residency on site.
Ideas range from a printing a broadsheet of local Colloquialism, an in depth investigation into local stereotypes and the printing a one-off fanzine using a 2 ton asphalt roller on Union Street. The project will push the idea of the printed material to the scale of the street.
