Southwark Council has announced that this year's John Harvard lecture will be given by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson MP.
The lecture will be one of Mr Johnson's final public engagements before the mayoral election campaign begins.
The John Harvard lecture was established in 2007 with the aim of bringing to light some of the key issues within modern society, exploring the nature of the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom and celebrating the life and work of John Harvard, who was born in Southwark and lived in the borough before emigrating to the United States.
Previous lecturers in the Harvard series have included Justin Webb, Simon Schama and Gordon Brown.
