Emily South at Southwark College

Scale is Emily's first exhibition and comprises of a range of panoramic drawings from UK cities.

Scale explores people taking notice of details in buildings when they are scaled down to drawing size.

Emily noticed that when people looked at her work the details in the drawing became very important and the smallest window was accounted for when it was viewed.

But the real question which puzzles her is why people don't look so closely when it's scaled back in their real surroundings.

Feeling like many people miss out on this in their daily lives and don't look up from their phones or busy day to day life to take a moment, slow down and appreciate the city, the architecture and their surroundings are the thoughts behind the show.

The aim of the exhibition is to give people an opportunity to stop and realise the buildings and detail in the work is out there for you to see in the real world if you just take the time.

Emily's practice explores cityscapes with a particular interest and love for the London Skyline. This is a reflection of her architecture studying previously to her current role at Morley Gallery.

Emily is interested in exploring what makes up a city and hopes to develop her work further from the highlights to encapsulate what more you can discover and looking beyond the quintessential skyline shown in these works, to further push the opportunity for people to appreciate and enjoy their surroundings and the city they live in
