Lewisham Concert Band was formed in 1967 and is one of Southern England's most highly regarded wind orchestras. Originally conducted by Joseph Proctor it became famous for its numerous broadcasts in the 1970s and 1980s on BBC Radio 2's 'Friday Night is Music Night' and 'Listen to the Band'. Nowadays, it consists of professional and amateur musicians based in London and the Home Counties and regularly performs in London and the South East of England. Leslie Lake has been the band's conductor since 2004. Leslie is the bass trombonist with the English National Opera and musical director of the Locke Brass Consort.
