A Man in a Room, Gambling

For this concert The Gavin Bryars Ensemble performs a selection of his 1992 collaboration with Juan Munoz. A sequence of five-minute long texts with music, A Man in a Room, Gambling is concerned with the strategies employed in card games.

The work was conceived in the character of a late night radio broadcast; "Juan imagined a listener driving along a motorway at night being bemused by this fleeting and perhaps enigmatic curiosity, in fact precisely the way in which most listeners encounter the Shipping Forecast."
