Worlds away from the glamour and wealth which it symbolises, this 'dirty' industry is having devastating effects on the developing countries which house the majority of the gold mining, along with some of the world's poorest people. The mining is reportedly polluting water supplies and displacing locals, having a detrimental effect on these countries health and social wellbeing.
