Melanie Friend

A new exhibition tackling the plight of migrants and asylum seekers held in detention. Photographer Melanie Friend spent four years making a photographic document of the UK's Immigration Removal Centres.

The images in Border Country are juxtaposed with the broken up soundtrack of the voices of detainees.

Melanie began work on Border Country in 2003. As a visitor she met asylum seekers and migrants in several removal centres. She was given special access to record interviews with male detainees in Dover and female detainees in Yarl's Wood.
