In 2009, the world's largest humanitarian network - the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement - has launched a global campaign to highlight today's most pressing humanitarian challenges on the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Solferino where the Red Cross Movement was founded.

An exhibition of images from the archives of the International Committee of the Red Cross is one of a series of events during 2009 marking the founding of the Movement.

The photographs on display have been selected from more than 200 images featured in the book of the same name being launched to coincide with the show.

The iconic images illustrate the pain and anguish of men, women and children who endured the hardships of war and the ICRC's work to alleviate their suffering.

The exhibition aspires to remind all of us of the importance of exercising our humanity.
