The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Obviously most famous for being Heath Ledger’s last performance, this is still another intriguing if flawed film from Terry Gilliam, one of the few visionaries in contemporary cinema whose films have never quite reached the dizzying heights of Brazil (or Time Bandits if you want to look at it another way).

Fantastical, surreal and magical, the film tells the story of Dr. Parnassus who once won a bet with the devil and can guide the imagination of others. Except a bet with Tom Waits for the hand of his daughter (Lily Cole) doesn’t go as planned and another wager is set up… Great performances with Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell stepping into Ledger’s character for the last half of the film.
