Make an exhibition of yourself

BY FRANCIS JAMES, BANKSIDE PRESS

"The Museum of what?!" Here at Bankside Press we've had several people ask us "Is it really called the Museum Of?" The name really seems to confuse people. But on reflection, perhaps that's a good thing since the aim of the project is to "challenge and explore the way we think about museums" in a series of five temporary exhibitions preparing for a permanent Museum of the River Thames in the Bargehouse at Oxo Tower Wharf.

From Friday 21 May the Museum of Me will enable visitors to create an individual time capsule about themselves, by compiling information about themselves ranging from length of left index finger to dreams and fantasies. Artworks and installations include a chronicle of a year in the life of one man in the form of a collection of 365 photographs taken at 11.20am each day.

Also in the Bargehouse a site specific theatre work - Icarus Falling - will run from Wednesday 26 May to Saturday 19 June. According to mythology Icarus flew too close to the Sun. This production takes the form of a "visually sumptuous" investigation into the last few seconds of his life. Performances are Tuesday to Sunday at 8pm. The box office is on 0171 960 4242.
