Wobbly bridge boss knighted in birthday honours

Chairman of the Southwark Bridge-based Financial Times and mastermind of the Millennium Bridge is amongst those with local connections who feature in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

David Bell, chairman of the FT, told the Daily Telegraph that his knighthood was probably linked to his role as chairman of the Millennium Bridge Trust: "(The bridge) was my idea. It took a bit of a wobble but is now doing beautifully."

David Verey, the former chair of the Tate trustees who served during the period which saw the opening of Tate Modern on Bankside in 2000, receives the CBE for services to art.

Bankside Lofts resident Pamela Taylor, chief executive of Water UK, is awarded the OBE for services to the water industry.

Professor Nairn Wilson, dean and head of Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Dental Institute, which is part of King's College, gets the CBE for services to dentistry and healthcare regulation.

Marjorie Moore also gained an MBE for services to Guy's Hospital.
