Konditor & Cook cakes return to The Cut

The redevelopment of the Young Vic along with its Konditor café has left many feeling that they had not only lost their local theatre for a couple of years but also their quiet drop-in meeting place.

Actors Anna Lewis and Claire Evans, who both worked at the Young Vic, have opened the café serving Konditor & Cook cakes and have a pool of a dozen fellow actors to help staff the new venue. The Arch Gallery occupies the former shoe repairer's across the road from the theatre.

A cappucino is £1.60 and the organic hot chocolate £1.80. The food includes chocolate brownies at £1.60. Equity members customers even get a 10% discount.

There are small tables and a sofa. The decor will change with each new art exhibition. The daily newspapers are available and, as at the Young Vic, it is a pick-up point for in SE1.

For its first few weeks the gallery and its café is opening Monday to Friday from 8am.
