Blair chooses SE1 school to announce election date

Tony Blair has announced the date of the General Election during a visit to a beacon school in SE1.

He visited St Saviour's & St Olave's School in Bermondsey, where he confirmed Thursday 7 June as polling day.

Blair was greeted at the school by placard-waving demonstrators carrying posters with a picture of Mr Blair and the slogan: "Failed, failed, failed" – a reference to Mr Blair's 1997 election slogan "Education, education, education".

Mr Blair was welcomed by headteacher Irene Bishop and received a warm welcome from students. The Prime Minister went on to congratulate the headteacher, staff and pupils on the improvements in the school's GCSE results in recent years.
