Aladdin audiences raise over £16,000 for Tsunami appeal

Audiences of 'Aladdin' at the Old Vic have been taking time to remember the thousands that are suffering following the Asian Tsunami.

At the close of each show on New Year's Eve, Sunday 2 and Wednesday 5 January, cast  member Maureen Lipman urged everyone present to donate generously to the appeal. Members of the cast then flanked the foyer with collection buckets, leading to a final total collection of £16,679, including gift aid.

Representatives of The Old Vic Theatre Trust, whose Trustees include Lord Attenborough, have also agreed to donate theatre space free of charge to industry professionals setting up a fundraising event for victims of the disaster.
