Peter Wright, director of music at Southwark Cathedral, has been elected President of the Royal College of Organists.

As an organ scholar at Emmanuel College Cambridge Peter Wright studied with Dame Gillian Weir. In 1989 he succeeded Harry Bramma as organist and director of music at Southwark Cathedral and became an SE1 resident.

Under his direction the Cathedral choir has recorded CDs, toured the USA and the continent. Television recordings include the signature tune for the Mr Bean TV series. Recently a girls' choir was established at Southwark.

In Millennium year he performed the complete organ works of J. S. Bach as part of the Cathedral's Monday lunchtime series. His work abroad includes a recent recital in Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris.
