Good Friday procession of witness

London SE1 website team

Around 90 representatives of Southwark's riverside parish churches took part in a Good Friday procession of witness.

The procession, led by a cross, started out from Our Lady of La Salette Church near Guy's Hospital. Pauses for hymns and readings of the Good Friday story were made at Southwark Cathedral churchyard, the Anchor pub on Bankside and below the Millennium Bridge.

Tourists gathered to watch as the procession passed Tate Modern and even the bird whistle salesman put his demonstration on hold for a few minutes.

Those taking part in the mile long walk included church members from St George the Martyr in Borough and Crossways URC in New Kent Road.

The final stop was at Christ Church in Blackfriars Road where warm Hot Cross Buns were served following the concluding act of worship.

There was also a procession of witness at Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park. At Waterloo the congregation of St John's Church processed to the station concourse for prayers and readings.
