London SE1 website team

Police appealing for any information or witnesses to a shooting on Sunday 21 August in the Old Kent Road.

It happened at around 4.35am near the junction with East Street.

Earlier the victim, a 19 year old man, had been talking to someone in Stephanie's nightclub with his friend. Three men approached them and an altercation took place, spilling out on to the street.

The victim ran up and across the road in pursuit of one of the men. As they reached Lings Chemist at 269 Old Kent Road, the man shot the victim in the chest.

He managed to stagger back to the other side of the road before collapsing in the nearby Tesco car park.

The three suspects are described as young black men, possibly around 18 years of age.

An ambulance was called and a member of the public gave first aid at the scene. The victim was then taken to hospital. His condition is described as stable and is not believed to be life threatening at this stage.

The incident is being investigated by the specialist shootings team of Operation Trident.

"The victim had been to the nightclub with friends earlier," said DC Steve Robinson. "Maybe you were in Stephanie's on the night of Saturday 20 August, into the early hours of Sunday. Did you see anything of the incident, either the altercation inside the club or the shooting outside?"

Anyone with any information is asked to ring the incident room on 020 8785 8580 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain anonymous.
