The group is among the third round of winners in this ground-breaking initiative between the Big Lottery Fund and ITV who have teamed up to bring viewers the People's Millions, giving the public a direct say on where lottery funding will go to benefit local communities.

St Mungo Community Housing Association will use the winnings to renovate the neglected churchyard of St John's Church and regenerate places such as the children's play areas to bring it back into wider community use for Waterloo residents.

A total of £2.5 million in Big Lottery Fund cash is up for public vote. Projects in each ITV region are going head-to-head on television to win one of the 50 awards of up to £50,000 cash.

St Mungo Community Housing Association appeared on Wednesday's London ITV regional news to make their case to the viewers. In all 1,696 members of the public in the region cast their vote in the competition.

On Tuesday Victims Support Southwark lost out to The Ahoy Centre in Deptford for one of the grants.
